March 15

The planning for Band Camp II begins.

This time, in VEGAS!

You know what happens when you add Evil Jake and Vegas, don't you?

(ok, maybe you don't.... but a friendly stripper or out of shape pit boss might be able to tell you)

January 30

The writing continues...

December 3

The two greatest sites ever...

How is everybody doin?  We're working on the new record...

November 20

Mike goes to see Sam and The Bravery in London.  Mike and Sam were in the Pasties together, and The Bravery is kicking ass in the UK.  Check 'em out on Island Records.

August 22

"Be My Ex-Girlfriend" gets nominated for "Best Song" in the JPFolks Awards... (no, those aren't awards for folk songs).

August 8

Mike's birthday!  Whoo-hoo!
He won't  tell you how old he is.

July 7

Make sure you've read the USO Tour Diary, with all the cool details from the tour.

July 1

Writing, Writing, Writing...   stay tuned for some one off gigs.

June 3

The band is holed up working on the follow up to the 2004 hit album Be My Ex-Girlfriend.  New songs aplenty, including one they debuted in Kosovo, "RU4Real".  You'll hear it at the next Evil Jake gig.

May 17

Did you know that there's a drink called the EvilJake?

And Devon Michaels finally has his own IMDB page (joining TV's Rod Brogan).

May 12

Yup, we're back.  Make sure you've read the TOUR DIARY.  Lots of great stuff.

Also, the guys at Jack Daniels have told us that we are now officially Tennessee Squires.  Whoo-hoo!

April 27

We leave for the USO Tour tomorrow.  We are PSYCHED.

April 25

Brooklyn Invasion party was a BLAST.  Thanks again to Scott of Frank and Ram of Dumbo Recordings for setting it up.  Nudity, drunkenness, all the good stuff.  And Howard wasn't there.

April 13

Last minute strings and case searching.  Tons o fun...

April 11

Packing for the USO Tour

April 9

Did not know until we got there, but Simmons College is an all-girls college.  Whoo-hoo!  (thanks to Ariel for hooking us up).  Queen Laribee makes the trip as well, and can't stop talking about her ex, Bob Geldof.

And while Mike is asking if anyone is watching Queer Eye, and yelling "1 in 4, maybe more", he fails to notice the three lesbian couples making out by the free wings.

Go Simmons, We Love You!

April 3

Some French cafes staffed by rude waitresses get their bathrooms stickered with Evil Jake stuff...

March 31

Mike heads off to London to visit his sister and bother Insaniac.  He picks up their great new album at the local HMV.  Everything goes great, except Mike keeps finding himself walking on the wrong side of corridors and stairways.  Thank god he's not driving.

Leather goes to Florida to tan the leather.

March 13

Crash mansion show is a blast.  Mike can't find his way home.

March 1

Gearing up for the USO tour...

February 1

Mike comes home, but decides he's not quite ready for a return to NYC life (and freezing temperatures).  He heads out to LA for the weekend to meet up with TV's Rod Brogan and Devon Schwartz Michaels (of West Wing Fame).  Unfortunately, Devon's IMDB listing is broken because there is a porn star with literally the same name, and his credits keep going to her (even though a porn star on Frazier is believable).

The three party on with Jenna Von Oy of hit show "The Parkers", but better known as 6 from Blossom.  Her superbowl party is quite the success... so much so that Devon loses both his cell phone and his girlfriend.

The guy who slides over the oily girl in National Lampoon's Van Wilder is also there.  He plays with the dogs.

January 15

Mike is still in Key West, but he knows he has to leave soon to make it back in time for the NYC gig on the 24th.  Let's hope the van makes it...

Lots of folks yell out "Evil Jake!" when they see Mike driving by... not sure if thats cause they recognize Mike from MTV, or because the license plates say "Evil Jake" (and NYC plates are sorta rare in Key West).

January 8

Mike goes to DisneyWorld for vacation and rides Space Mountain three times.

January 2

Happy New Year, everybody.  I spent mine on the beach in Key West.  Could not take another freezing New Years.  Whoo-hoo, Margaritaville!

December 15

Evil Jake has now fully entered the digital music age!!!  Evil Jake tunes are available in all the top online music sites, including...

December 8

We just got word that we've been accepted to do a USO tour for our troups in Europe.  Yes, we'll be playin' for the boys (and girls) who protect us in places like England, Germany, and Kosovo.  More details to follow...

December 1

Hey, WE'RE ON VACATION!

November 15

Long Island gig at Mr. Beery's is the raucous time we expect. The barstaff are all big fans of Evil Jake, so they shout out requests throughout the whole set. Of course, every request is for Be My Ex-Girlfriend. Imaginary Bill, another great NYC band, opened up with a blistering set.

DC gig is even better. Jeff Bober, the guy at Budda who designed Mike's amp, came to the show and became a big fan. Lots of random dancing, and the double encore always feels good. Acquiesce, also from NYC played after us, and it all made for a great evening. Oh, except for the fact that we had to drive for 5 hours immediately after the gig.

Next up, the big NYC return gig. Uma SAYS she'll be there, but we'll see...

November 4

After a couple days off at home in NYC (with a private benefit show in town in the middle), we got reenergized for another tour swing... this time, Providence, Boston, and Worcester.

Our first time in Providence was a relative success. Decent turnout, free beer, good popcorn, and the Captain Morgan girls were in town (pictures soon). Set was good, and the place didn't burn down. Halloween at the Sky Bar in Somerville (next to Cambridge) was a whole lot of fun. Default outfit dressed in monk robes and played a 10 minute version of Thriller. Lincoln Conspiracy played the loudest distorted piano I ever heard. All the girls dressed up as girls better looking than they actually were, and we met lots of new folks and fans. We ended up crashing with the Lincoln Conspiracy guys across from Harvard Stadium. Worcester, while not a pretty town, is definitely good for the rock and roll. The guys in Huck (www.huckmusic.com) hooked us up with a gig, and Almost Speechless from Springfield was also on the bill. Ralph's, the venue, had great burgers but looked a crime scene.

We drove the 3.5 hours home right after the gig, and got to sleep at maybe 8pm. Next weekend... Long Island, and then Washington DC again.

October 27

Indiana is probably our favorite gig of them all. A small joint, Melody Inn, but very cool. There was the crazy guy who kept running to other bars to get more people, and playing his siren during the set. Free beer until they cut us off. And Mike walking through the Burger King drive thru. We got 3 encores, and left town at about 3 am...

Only to have to drive about 500 miles to make a 9pm show in Utica the next night. Ouch, did that hurt. And, as a little "bonus", we lost BOTH headlights and had to drive most of the way with our brights. In the rain, of course. And then the van started sputtering. But we made it. And rocked Utica.

October 24

The Chicago gig is one of our best in a while, even though Paul and Mike are coughing and wheezing, and trying to stay off the sauce. Paul naps in the van before the set. We didn't think we'd be able to wake him, but he gets up just before the set begins.

We have some old friends in town, plus the other bands pull in a nice draw, and the place is pretty much filled. A good Thursday night right by Northwestern University. We have one of our better sets, but load out takes twice the usual time with everyone limping and moving slowly.

We met a bunch of cool new fans, and almost got to crash with 9 girls in their apartment. But, alas, parking held us back. Next time, girls, we promise... So we drive out to the suburbs to crash with our friend Brian, his wife, au pair, and two kids. AURORA, BABY! (yeah, just like Wayne's World). Dave and Mike sleep in the basement on an old couch and futon.

Then we scramble to wake up and drive to Indianapolis, but not without hitting traffic in Chicago and then in Gary, Indiana, birthplace of ALL of the Jackson 5.

October 22

We rocked Ypsilanti (right near Ann Arbor) last night and met a cool band, the Widowmakers. The staff was great, but none of them gave Paul a tattoo. Then we played Dearborn (right outside downtown Detroit) at a place called Tenny St. Roadhouse.  The ribs were good, but the layout was better suited for a sit down blues show, not Evil Jake.

October 21

Hey, we're in Michigan!  Hanging out on 8 Mile, which looks NOTHING like the movie.  But we have two big shows coming up in town, which should be a lot of fun.

Paul gets ANOTHER tattoo on this tour, but this one actually at the gig. No, not near the gig, at the gig. State Street Tavern in Erie had a tattoo artist on staff, and Paul got a big randomly shaped blob on his arm. OK, it wasn't actually finished at the club, the guy had to come back to where we were staying and work on it there. And we still have to come back to fill in some stuff.

So, the Erie gig was a ton of fun (apparently, we were the biggest draw they had had in a year, even though the place didn't look crowded at all), and then it was off to Cleveland for a free show opening for DOPE. Ok, maybe there was a genre difference, but these guys are major label so its worth it, right? Well, EVERYONE wore black. Me and Paul went back to the van to change into something black. Unfortunately, all I had that was black was a Steelers jersey. That didn't go over so well. The other bands on the bill were even harder than dope, and we looked a little woos. But we converted a bunch of new fans, and had some support from some of our friends in the area.

Next up were two gigs in the Detroit area. Luckily, Paul's aunt lived in the area (RIGHT off 8 mile), so we had a comfortable place to set up show. We also got a day off, which was great. We played with a great local band called the Widowmakers, who admitted to sucking at the *beginning* of the set. Next up was the Dearborn gig.

We also got to do another radio interview, this time with Brooke at WVAC in Adrian, MI.

Next up, Chicago...

October 17

Evil Jake interviewed Uma Thurman on the big morning show in Rochester... No joke. But we'll start from the beginning.

On Thursday, we visited the big morning show in Rochester - Brother Wease on WCMF. Besides being one of the coolest guys we've ever met, Wease was kind enough to have us on the show for two and a half hours, let us play a tune (Be My Ex-Girlfriend, of course), and, basically hook us up with the hottest woman on earth.

Yes, we had to wake up at 6:15 am (Dave hasn't been up before noon in 3 years) and drive from Syracuse to Rochester, but it was worth it. Wease let me pretend to be him and interview Uma Thurman on air for her new flick, Kill Bill. Yes, that Uma Thurman. She's even hotter on the phone than on screen. David asked her if she liked musicians, and she basically said no. She started talking about her painful breakup, but David just kept saying he was available. We got her to commit to coming to the next NYC show on air (we'll post the mp3s as soon as we can).

Oh yeah, and we played some, too. Syracuse gig was ok, Rochester was a little better, but Buffalo was a fun drunken mess of a gig. Broke a string and changed guitars mid solo, but I don't think I stopped playing for more than a second. Paul knocked down quite a few of his drum parts. David has a big hole in his leather pants. Jen, our lawyer, met up with us in Buffalo, but resembled a groupie more than any legal counsel.

We're off to Erie tonight for a big gig at State Street Tavern, hooked up by one of the great promoters in the area, Kip Elbaum. May get another radio show too, but I don't think we're gonna get Uma again.

Mike and Wilson flyer the Lower East Side with Andy  from THIS.

Right before the postering  begins, they bump into Britney Spears at VG on Broadway & Bleecker... who was only in there to use the bathroom.

She gives Mike a dirty look, but quick-thinking Wilson gives her a flyer.

As if that weren't enough, they later bump into Famke Janssen (is that who you spell it) and the bad guy from that crappy Dueces Wild movie.  Wait, I just checked.  His name is Norman Reedus.  He was in Blade 2 as the kid who joins the team with Blade and the old fart.  This is him...

We're only showing you because you know who Britney is.  And this guy probably needs all the help he can get.

And, no, we're  not making any of this up.  Shit just happens in NYC, you know...

Welcome aboard Wilson.  You'll all get to meet him at the NYC CD Release party.

Its gettin' cold in NYC...

November 28

Mike returns from LA, where he serenaded young girls and they screamed.  No stripping, though... Happy Turkey, Evil Jake fans!

ilu, sweetie...

November 22

OK, for the NYC folk who missed the Arlene gig last night, you REALLY missed it.

Those of you who attended caught the little strip show put on by an overexcited patron.  And we mean strip show in the "I paid for it with Canadian money" sense, not that "prep school girl shows a half a nipple on a Saturday night and thinks she's suddenly a NYC scenester kind of thing".  We're talking down to the thong.  And this one was cute too... nothing like the last person who removed articles of clothing at an Evil Jake show (you suck, Lasky).

This girl was THROWN OUT of the establishment for her displays, but not before dancing for about 15 minutes on stage, bumping into things, knocking over several mic stands, groping and kissing various members of Evil Jake.  The band even kicked into "Hootchie Kootchie Man" for a minute or two of the show, just because we've all seen Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze too many times.  That old guy went to Mike's high school, by the way.  For a guy who only rules an old fart town, he was pretty cool.

OK, we're not saying that we approve of this kind of behavior.  We'll just doing you a service and letting you know that it happened, and we weren't upset.  OK?  That we gave her a free t-shirt shouldn't inspire you to do the same, OK?  (wink)

Oh yeah, and as if that weren't enough, right at the beginning of the set, a drunk girl climbed on stage and handed David (yes, David) her jacket like he was the  coat check or something.  He put it on his amp, I think.  And she didn't even tip.

November 15

Just a couple days until the Arlene Gig.  And the studio tracking is almost done.

Kazaa picks us as one of their Top 30 bands...

Check out the new studio updates page!  We have lots of pix and news up there..

November 10

November 5

There is an Evil Jake concert poster for auction on ebay...  the poster was designed by Gaither...

November 2

We're tired... but the tracks are almost done.

Paul gets pissed that noone's interviewing HIM, so he interviews himself (with his brother's help).  Check it out heret.

October 30

Paul writes in...

Hey kids! We've been working real hard to bring you the very first full length album you all deserve. Lots of 14 hour days consisting of (but not limited to) blisters, broken tape machines, bleeding ears, busted strings, food induced comas, fires in apartment buildings, cross town traffic, and 2 weeks worth of blood, sweat, and beers.

The result we hope, will be a rockin' good record worthy of radio airplay and an upcoming tour.

If you've been wondering what our sessions have been like, well, they've been damn productive. We ripped through basic tracks in 2 days. With Producer Adam Lasus (Juliana Hatfield, Gigolo Aunts) at the helm, myself sloshing away at my new Beatles Fab Four Drum kit, and Dave literally exploding on every bass track, this would be one record not to miss. As I write this, Mike is laying down guitar for song number 10. (of a possible 14)

To get right down to it, we're pretty freakin psyched about this record and we hope you will too!

So hop on over to www.eviljake.com and PREORDER THE NEW DEBUT FULL LENGTH CD, "BE MY EX-GIRLFRIEND" NOW !!! Be the first on your block to have one BEFORE it's commercially available!
*AND* When you preorder your "BE MY EX-GIRLFRIEND" CD within the next 2 weeks,
You'll get a special "BONUS PACK" that includes the tracks that may not make it to the cd as some extra goodies.

Come on, you know you want it...
Preorder the CD NOW!!!

Yours In Music,
Paul

October 21

Still crankin' in the studio.  We laid down basic tracks for 14 SONGS.  We're not sure which (if any) will get cut, but it looks like we're gonna have new songs like Serious and Use me leading off the album.  Make sure you preorder the CD ASAP.

October 13

Studio sessions begin this week.  The band is psyched.  The material is tweaked, the equipment is there, and we're all pumped up.  We'll post pictures and stuff here as soon as we have 'em.

And don't miss the Shine gig.

October 9

Budda heeds the call for a possible endorsement.  They will likely be sending over one of their Superdrive 80 amps for use on the album.  (MIke already uses their Superdrive 30 amp, which is by no means only 3/8 as good.

Still crankin' on material.  Narrowed the songs down to 13.  Looks like Use Me is gonna be a big single, and Serious is gonna be pretty darn cool, too.

October 8

You can preorder the new "Be My Ex-Girlfriend CD) here...

Hey, Chloe!

September 16

NEW!!  Send an Evil Jake ELECTRONIC POSTCARD to a friend!!!

Cranking on the new material.  Started with 22 songs, narrowed that down to 18, then 14.  Now it looks like we're focusing on 12, and will probably lose one or two in the process.  This album is gonna ROCK.

September 15

Danbury was pretty good.

Dickinson ROCKED.  Thanks to Limor and the gang for getting that all set up, and for making it such a good time.  We shall return.

September 4

Meet David.  He likes leather.

Apparently, no insurance company on earth with insure Paul.  Anybody got a minivan we can borrow?

CT gig all booked and good... can't wait to see the Danbury crowd again.

September 2

New songs for the album are coming along swimmingly.  Will actually have to narrow them down.  3 songs we've played live at least a couple of times have already been cut from the list.

September 1

Evil Jake returns from a WILD weekend in Vegas.  $3k wagers, mysterious blackouts on the biggest betting game of the season, and someone in the party gets lost for 2 days.

Evil Jake goes off to Vegas for a few days of R and R.  Whoo-hoo!

August 28

Hives/Jimmy Eat World/Pete Yorn show at Hammerstein Ballroom.  Evil Jake stickers all over the place.

August 17

The band makes contact with producer Adam Lasus (Leah Coloff, Helium, Gigolo Aunts) about the new Evil Jake album.  The boys are excited about the prospect of working with the noted indie producer.

August 13

Mike's new girlie writes in to express her excitement about being mentioned in a recent Evil Jake news section (xoxo, sweetie).

August 11

Mike comes off his "I just met a new girl" hiatus.  She goes back to college so he has some free time (until Evil One is road-ready again, I guess) to add to this column.

The girl who dumped him with the now infamous "You live in your own world... an Evil Jake world." line now asks "are you on crack???"

Ryan suggests a "New York Girls" song to work that particular demographic during the live show.

July 28

We're kicking butt on the Jim Beam Rock Band Search (with like half the vote).

July 23

Evil Jake has been chosen to compete in the 2002 Jim Beam Rock Band Search.   Evil Jake will be featured at www.jimbeammusic.com starting July 24 @ 7pm EST and ending July 31 at 7 EST.  Please go and vote for us!!!!

July 20

TomatoNation.com likes us.

Arlene gig, even with a blackout that darkens half of downtown, is a raging success.  Blood goes lukewarm as every band on the bill plays "Hungry like the Wolf" in tribute to Rod Brogan.

David Leatherwood makes his leather pants debut on bass, and spends much of it lying down next to the drum riser... but doesn't miss a beat.

July 14

Mike is left with these words:

"It's not you, it's me....  I'd like to stay friends...  You live in your own world... an Evil Jake world."

He's not kidding.

July 14

Evil Jake officially starts its bass player search.  Know any?  contact us

July 13

Trip to Mademoiselle is a success.  Gina, the shot girl, swears she's coming down to NYC for a show.  Michelle is her usual lovely self.  Roberta shows up for 5 minutes and then leaves.

Mike Rachaf is now Mr. Mike Rachaf (congrats to him on his wedding).

July 9

Mike has a wedding in Buffalo this weekend, so methinks he might just return to Mademoiselle on Friday.

July 7

July 4 weekend was cool.  XM Radio puts Evil Jake into rotation, and some Boston fans write in to tell us.  Tell 'em you love us (e-mail and phone here).

July 3

We get some more coverage.

Hunkering down now, working on new material.  Know any bass players?

Mike is working on his dating skills.  Apparently, he's "a piece of work".  But he finds out she was an extra in Keeping the Faith.

June 24

Paul snapped some photos of the Danbury gig, which ROCKED.  You can find them here.  Thanks again to all the fans, new and old, who made it out and turned it into one of the best shows we've every played.  (We'll see you all real soon).  And thanks to Albany's Count the Stars, who put on a great show right after us, for "lending" us some of their fans.  Check those guys out if you haven't already.

Mike is trying like a mofo to finish off the lyrics to the new soon-to-be-classic EJ tune, "Serious".  Like "Are You Serious You Wanted It That Way?"  If you have any lyrical suggestions, please let us know.  Mike swears he'll give you writing credit.

June 4

Mike appears on VH1's Storytellers with the Goo Goo Dolls (first Macy Gray, then Sebastian Bach, and now this). That's him in the front row right in front of Jonny.  Thanks to Kish (sitting directly to the right of Mike) for picking up the superexclusive tix.  How did she do that, anyway?

Evil Jake returns to the studio!  Evil Jake will be soon returning to the hole to record new versions of some "old" songs, plus a bunch of new ones.... if you have a favorite you NEED to be on the album, let us know.

June 1

Mike is bored today.

Paul asked for his own column, but can't put 10 words together in 4 months.  Not that we'd have anything to ask Paul anyway.

Aaron retired and moved to New Jersey.
